TOUR ITINERARY

Setting off in the morning you will visit both the Abbey and Donegal Castle, homestead of the O’Donnell Clan and their most famous leader Red Hugh O Donnell. On the site of a Viking fort, it was built by the famous Donegal Chieftain dynasty in the 15th century and has undergone restoration works in recent years.

Next we visit the seaside town of Killybegs, Ireland’s largest fishing port. We recount it’s maritime history through the ages including how the “La Girona” set sail from these shores for the last time. From here we travel along the Wild Atlantic Way towards the Muckross Coast.

Next we ‘Discover the Edge’ of Sliabh Liag, which are among Europe’s highest Sea Cliffs. At 2000ft, Slieve League cliffs are three times higher than the Cliffs of Moher and now attract over 160,000 visitors each year. Here you will get a chance to absorb the clean fresh Atlantic air from the viewing point where you will get possibly the best selfie in the World!! Take a stroll on the Pilgrim’s Path or if you dare along One Man Pass.

Next we visit The Glencolmcille Folk Village Museum. This is a cluster of six small cottages, called the “clachán,” perched on a hillside overlooking a sandy curve of nearby Glenbay beach. Each cottage recreates a different era of Irish history, from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.

Places You Will Explore

Built by the O’Donnell chieftains in the 15th Century, beside the river Eske in Donegal Town, Donegal Castle was rebuilt in Jacobean style in the 16th Century by Sir Basil Brooke, after Hugh O’Donnell burnt it to the ground rather than let it fall into enemy hands. Information panels chronicle the history of the castle and guided tours are available.

Next we visit the seaside town of Killybegs, Ireland’s largest fishing port. We recount it’s maritime history through the ages including how the “La Girona” set sail from these shores for the last time. From here we travel along the Wild Atlantic Way towards the Muckross Coast.

The Sliabh Liag (Slieve League) cliffs are truly breathtaking, the cliff face of Bunglas rises over 600m above the raging ocean. Only experienced walkers should venture beyond the viewing point onto One Man’s Pass which loops around the Pilgrim’s Path.

The Glencolmcille Folk Village Museum recreates Donegal’s historic cottage dwellings, spanning over 300 years, in Glencolmcille, County Donegal.
